Charles was 15 years old when news came to Boree Nyrang of his father's death in Sydney. He and the other five younger children moved with Emily to "Rockend", Gladesville. In those days at "Rockend" there were no sharks and he swam in the Parramatta River at that point. There was a cup too which he won at rowing but it is not engraved and the history of it is lost. He was educated at Mr. Southery's school. |

- The hospital was his pet project and when you stand beside his grave you look straight at it on the side of the hill across the river. He was President of Wellington Hospital Board.
|
Died |
21 Jun 1912 |
Darlinghurst, NSW |
- Charles died of pneumonia. His death was unexpected. For a considerable time past, the late Mr. Barton's health has been far from satisfactory. Recently he decided on a trip to England, but it was abandoned on the advice of his medical attendant, and he entered a private hospital in Sydney. Reports received of his progress were of a reassuring character, and on Friday morning a telegram came to hand stating that he was getting on well. This had hardly been read when another was received announcing his death, and it can easily be understood that the announcement came as a shock.
