They included the following historical notes in their submissions; "The Estate was initially part of Chatham Farm (1795 - 1855), which was a large family estate that was owned by John Brabyn and then the Bennet Family. The land known as Chatham Farm was purchased by the Darvall Family in 1855. The land was known as the Ryedale (Darvall) Estate and contained Ryedale House and orchards. The subdivision of the Ryedale Estate commenced in 1900, as part of the city wide trend that was developing as a result of population increases, suburbanism and the opening of the railway."

The "Ryedale" house was demolished in 1974 by Mr Warren Peel and transported stone by stone to be rebuild in the Hunter Valley.
